ABOUT MÓAKOT

Móakot is an old cottage farm in Vatnsleysuströnd, where my maternal lineage originates. The farm was abandoned long ago, but its story lives on. My great-grandmother, Kristín Jónsdóttir, acquired Móakot in 1879 when she was only twenty years old. She was a farmer and later married my great-grandfather, Bjarni Sigurðsson, a local man, when she was 32 years old.

Kristín and Bjarni ran the farm at Móakot until 1923, when they moved to Hafnarfjörður. My grandmother, Margrét – their only daughter – lived most of her life in Hafnarfjörður. She passed away in 1983 but lives on in my memories and in the handicraft. She was the one who taught me to knit when I was a child.

The name Móakot is very dear to me. It connects me to my roots, family history, and Icelandic knitting tradition. The Kristín and Bjarni sweaters are designed in honor of the couple from Móakot.

DAUGHTERS AND SONS OF THE SETTLERS

In my knitting design, I emphasize maintaining old traditions and reflecting Icelandic origins. I call my sweaters Daughters and Sons of Settlement – garments that build on heritage, simplicity, and timeless design.

All knitting patterns from Móakot are designed with careful material selection in mind and are intended for natural yarns, such as wool and other natural fibers. Today, there is a wide selection of quality yarn, and it's often difficult to choose one over another. We all have our favorites – and you're welcome to follow yours.

I encourage you, dear knitter, to choose the yarn that suits you best, as long as the gauge matches what is specified in the pattern. This ensures the garment looks its best, both in fit and texture.
